LAW ENFORCEMENT SCHOLARSHIP
- Empowering our law enforcement community for a safer tomorrow
- Open to Cadets, Explorers, or equivalent/LAPFCU members ages 17-22
EACH program awards:
- One Grand Prize: $6,000
- Up to eight Excellent Achievement Awards: $4,500
Scholarships are awarded based on:
- Academic performance
- Extracurricular activities
- Scholastic awards and achievements
- Community involvement
- Written essay response
Law Enforcement Career Scholarship ProgramExclusively for eligible members in law enforcement programs (e.g., Cadets, Explorers, POPP, ACOP). Law Enforcement Scholarship Essay: In 500 to 1,000 words, write an essay about the following topic. “The Los Angeles Police Department, the second largest agency in the nation, will soon have a new Chief. What does the new Chief need to do to be successful? What qualities and characteristics will he or she need to have to be successful in his or her role?” To qualify, you must be a current LAPFCU member, enrolled in/recently graduated from a law enforcement youth program, and:

Traditional Scholarship ProgramFor all eligible LAPFCU youth members. Traditional Scholarship Essay: In 500 to 1,000 words, write an essay about the following topic. “Tell us about a hero in your life and explain how that person affected your perspective and influenced your behaviors and actions. How will you pay it forward so others benefit from this too?” To qualify, you must be a current LAPFCU member and:

*Qualification Requirements: Scholarship Applicant must be an LAPFCU member at time of application submission. No applications will be accepted until membership is verified. Cannot enter if you or an immediate family member is a previous LAPFCU scholarship winner. Applicant must be between 17 and 22 years old and in good standing with LAPFCU. Applicant must be enrolled in undergraduate classes at an accredited university, college, community college, technical program, or trade school for fall 2024. If you’re applying for the law enforcement scholarship program, in addition to the above requirements, you must also be an active member or a 2023 graduate of a youth law enforcement program, such as Cadets, Explorers, POPP, ACOP, or equivalent. You can only apply to one LAPFCU scholarship program. Scholarships will be awarded based upon combination of GPA, extracurricular activities, scholastic awards and achievements, community involvement, and a written essay.
